5 Things to Know About Charlestown Gallery
#1. Find Painters of Green Hill Landscapes at Charlestown Gallery
You can discover the works of up to 50 artists at the Charlestown Gallery. Gilly shared with me 2 featured painters that capture Green Hill landscapes in their paintings:
Antonia Tyz Peeples
Anotonia Tyz Peeples paints in oils and wants viewers of her paintings to reflect on their own memories. She finds the forms and designs created by the ocean as endlessly distinct & unique as snowflakes. Peeples ocean and wave paintings are large and magnificent. Her methods include taking photographs of waves along the beautiful beaches of South Country, RI – including Green Hill Beach – to inspire her art.
Burl Dawson

Burle Dawson Painting En Plein Air
Burl Dawson has an impressionistic style of painting and focuses on the composition of a figure within a landscape. Using color to full advantage and brushwork techniques, his paintings create a psychological effect on the viewer’s subconscious. Residing in the Green Hill Beach area, Dawson is often seen painting en plein air along salt pond shores and at ocean’s edge.
#2. You Can Throw a Party at Charlestown Gallery
Seeking a special location for your next family celebration or company event? The gallery welcomes all kinds of events, such as bridal showers, political gatherings & non profit fundraisers. Gilly describes how it works,
We’re very flexible in our arrangements. We can serve 125 people reception style, or about 55 guests for a catered sit down meal. Rental costs are based on the duration of the event; most rental fees are in the $400-$800 range. Right now we’re taking reservations for the 2016 season. Call the gallery 401-364-0120 to discuss your special event.”
#3. Charlestown Gallery Welcomes Children
If you think an art gallery is only a place for hushed conversation and quiet contemplation, than you’ve never been to Charlestown Gallery. Gilly shares his values on experiencing art as a family,
Exposure to the visual arts expands a child’s awareness of the world. Helping parents teach their children an appreciation of fine art is something we love to do. Our location in the Simple Pleasures shopping plaza is ideal; parents with kids who need some run around room can find it within steps of the gallery in our outdoor courtyard. And, our plaza neighbors include the seasonal Holy Cow Ice Cream Shop and Hungry Haven Restaurant which round out the family field trip.
#4. There’s NO Sales Tax on Original Art in Rhode Island
Did you know that Rhode Island has become the first state to stop collecting sales tax on original and limited edition art sold here? This includes fine art photography. In essence, we all benefit from how the state of Rhode Island has turned itself into one giant art district! Gilly remarks,
The elimination of sales tax has been a boost for art buyers who save money and for artists that move more of their great works!
#5. Holiday Sale – 15% off everything!
